Art Circa 1945
A winding country lane draws the eye through bare winter willows toward a red-roofed farmhouse nestled beneath rolling, ochre-touched hills — the scene rendered in bold, expressive brushwork characteristic of mid-20th century European post-Impressionism. Signed and dated 1945, this oil painting carries the weight of its moment in history, when artists across France and the continent returned to the pastoral landscape as both refuge and subject. The layered palette of forest green, burnt umber, and stormy grey speaks to a practiced hand and a deeply observed countryside. Presented in its original gilt wood frame with linen liner, this one-of-a-kind European antique painting arrives ready to anchor a library, study, or salon wall with quiet authority.
