Pina Blue
Deep cobalt glaze catches the light across a hand-applied surface of raised rosettes and beaded ribs, crowned with an eruption of sculpted ceramic blooms — this large pineapple sculpture is a tour de force of Mexican artisan pottery. Rooted in the folk art traditions of Tonalá and Tlaquepaque, where generations of craftsmen have built three-dimensional surface texture by hand, piece by painstaking piece, each element is individually formed and fired before the whole is unified under a single luminous glaze. The pineapple, long a symbol of welcome and abundance throughout Spanish Colonial culture, carries both visual weight and cultural resonance. Displayed alone on a console or sideboard, it commands a room the way only a one-of-a-kind handcrafted piece can.
