Amber glaze pools and fades across the belly of this French confit pot, its surface telling the story of a century of use in the farmhouses of southwestern France — where such vessels once preserved duck and goose confit through long rural winters. The two stubby handles, the wide-mouthed opening, and the gradual fade from rich ochre to raw unglazed earthenware at the base are hallmarks of the traditional pottery tradition of the Gascony region, fired in wood-burning kilns around the turn of the twentieth century.
