Retablo Green
A golden halo crowns a kneeling saint against a pastoral landscape of rolling green hills, grazing cattle, and a whitewashed Spanish Colonial chapel in the distance — all rendered by hand in the folk devotional tradition of Mexican retablo painting. This one-of-a-kind artisan piece is painted directly on wood panel, its edges brushed in the same soft blue-green as the sky above, grounding the sacred image in the everyday world of the faithful. Retablos have been created throughout Mexico for centuries as acts of devotion and gratitude, making each surviving example both a work of art and a piece of living cultural history. The naive, expressive brushwork and weathered surface speak to authentic handcraft — not reproduction — and bring genuine Mexican folk art character to any interior.
